Don't sit in the back, don't stay inside and don't be afraid to worship as a woman. Today, many women are diffident to being active in the church and just sit down and "take the back seat." Jesus never wanted women to sit back and only watch men do His work, He had many roles for women in the Bible and He still intends for us to continue worshipping and teaching about Him today!
The story of Mary of Bethany is new to me. I just read about her and the courageous worshipper she was as a woman. I believe her story is one of my favorite stories of the Bible! When Jesus was teaching at the House, men would normally sit in the front and the women would sit in the back. However, Mary of Bethany decided one day that she would take front row center as Jesus taught and she worshiped at Jesus' feet. When Mary's sister, Martha, seen this she was bothered by the "unusual"
behavior of Mary. However, the best part is, Jesus did not tell Mary to leave or move to the back, but instead, He looked to her sister, Martha and said, " Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things, but only one thing is necessary, For Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." - Luke 10:41-42
I just love this! Why do we worry about such small things in the church? What if we all just chose "The Good Part" as Jesus said about Mary of Bethany. She did not care about what others thought about her. She just knew she wanted to be close to Jesus and she wanted to be a woman of worship! I think I will choose the front seat too : )
